IPhone 4s activation lock

I recently got a iPhone 4s from an aunt of mine who no longer uses it. I reset it with itunes but it is activation locked. Is there anyway around this? I understand why apple has this feature but it seems useless if you forgot your passwords. I asked and my aunt and she no longer remembers the password for it. I believe it is running iOS 9? Is there anything I can do or the is phone only good for a paperweight?

 

I have tried looking up solutions but that only brings up videos that do not work or paid programs.

I don't have any information on the apple id.

I don't think my aunt cares enough to try to recover it. That why I was hoping there was something else I could do.

That's where I have been looking. Maybe I am looking in the wrong spots. All of the YouTube videos never work or are just advertisements for paid programs. 

All of the Google results I see are just paid programs.
