If it doesn't handle what you want to use it for, then yes. For a 1660 something like a 5600 (not G) + B550 should do, but I would go for a 13600K + B660 or Z690, which should last a long time which I assume is important considering how long you've been using that i7.

Nope not worth it. Best you can do is 3770K, and yes you would see a small difference if you were able to run it at 4500-4700MHz, but it the grand scheme it's just a drip in the bucket. I would save your hard-earned dollars for something a lot more modern.

1155 is old socket, and your cpi is fastest that socket is compatible with

so if you want to upgrade, that also lasts you want to upgrade MB and all parts that go with it (CPU and RAM)

The "K" version is the fastest but overall this is correct.
A 3770K is the absolute best you can do for Socket 1155, the one you have now can't clock as high as a "K" version because it's locked but that in itself doesn't mean alot.

If your current setup can't handle modern games well even a 3770K won't be of much help, instead if wanting to play modern games and have the system to run well doing it, it's time to upgrade the entire setup.

Either AMD or Intel setups can do it well.
I'm making the following suggestions based on what could be called a "Budget" build since I'm thinking that's what you may be dealing with budget-wise.

Ryzen does a good job of it - A good budget option for a Ryzen setup is to get a Ryzen 5600/5600x or 5700/5700x with a decent X570 board. B550 boards are good too and a little cheaper than the X versions - Throw in 16GB's of at least DDR4 PC 3200 RAM or higher with a good GPU and you're set.
If I'm not mistaken X470 and B450 boards will work with these chips too - Check that before buying if you decide to go this route.
Even a 3600/3600x chip is good compared to the setup you have now, thing is to get it cheap enough it's worth getting in the first place because later chips are just better and not that expensive themselves.

Intels can be done largely the same way by not getting the absolute newest out there but there are also good reasons for getting one.
You can score a good i5 chip for at or under $300 new and there are some good choices such as this: Intel Core i5-13600KF - Core i5 13th Gen Raptor Lake 14-Core (6P+8E) 3.5 GHz LGA 1700 125W Desktop Processor - BX8071513600KF - Newegg.com
*Note the link is for a chip on sale as of this post - The price will change once the "Sale" ends of course.*

Even older i7's are good compared to your current setup and this is one that's also under $300 as of this post under the same conditions as the above: Intel Core i7-11700K - Core i7 11th Gen Rocket Lake 8-Core 3.6 GHz LGA 1200 125W Intel UHD Graphics 750 Desktop Processor - BX8070811700K - Newegg.com

Be sure to shop around for a good board that's low in price you can use with what you choose, just don't go too cheap on the price. The real thing is to consider what features you want/need and once you know that you'll know what to get when you see it.

Just note I'm making suggestions based on what I perceive as a limited budget you'd have, you can go for the best/newest of either chip make but most anything new these days will trash your current setup's performance.... Which is probrably lacking these days with modern games for good reason.

If your budget isn't limited, parts are reasonably priced and availability is good where you are, just go with whatever suits you.
