Windows 10 PC Not Updating

WildFoxy100

I have this Lenovo Ideacentre AIO 520-24AST. I haven't used it in like 3 years. I have started using it. It runs windows version 1909. This is very outdated. I have tried windows update to update it but it always fails with the error code 0x80070652. I have updated all the drivers but still no success. Can you please help me update this PC.

That code means that the previous Windows installation has not yet been completed. It's failing to install whatever you're trying to give it because the updater instance in already running.

I recommend force closing everything that has anything to do with updating in TaskManager and disabling auto updates.. Then, restart.. See if anything tries to update, some stuff usually does.

The point is - kill off any running updater instances and then try to initiate updates from the WindowsUpdate window.

I had a bug on my laptop (Dell XPS 9700) that caused it to fail updating after a certain point and I had to reinstall Windows. It would fail to install the update and consequently fail to boot. Then it would boot loop itself into oblivion and I'd have to manually recover the previous stable instance of Windows.. Idk if you have issues of that sort. But if you can't get the Windows to update the easy way, you reinstall it from disc while keeping all data and it'll update itself during installation.

Anyone feel free to correct me.

First, do a sfc /scannow to fix. Then, after reboot do this:

https://www.microsoft.com/hr-hr/software-download/windows10

Use that tool to update Windows to 22H2.

Yeah you have to go into bios and set boot device to USB.. it won't get picked up just by plugging it in.

I tied it, it worked with no errors. I did windows update, it downloaded and installed but upon boot and entering winver the version is still the old one. I tried to upgrade to windows 11. It had some errors during the SAFE_OS and error during boot. I found this in the setuperr.log file:

Would you mind explaining why? I tried mounting a windows 10 ISO and installing. It says (attached). I used windows 10 media creation tool to upgrade but same error. I created ISO from the tool and used that same error. I used Rufus to create a bootable USB with the win 10 ISO but it didn't even show up when i pressed F12 during boot.

I put the USB in and booted from it. The windows 10 logo comes up. It takes a few seconds and my gaming keyboards lights go off. The screen blanks and the process repeats.

GPT.

But not Rufus. Use a USB drive created by the tool Microsoft provides.

Do you have the latest BIOS? I've seen cases where an older Bios doesn't let new Windows updates.

And older drivers too (tried IOBIt driver booster)?

But not Rufus. Use a USB drive created by the tool Microsoft provides.

I updated the drivers using SDIO. I think they are up to date. I will try using the official media creation tool again. I think I have an updated BIOS because I have an app from Lenovo called Lenovo Vantage which checks this kind of stuff. I've never used the app before but it says it's up to date. I completely reset my PC from settings removing all the files and apps. (I backed all the important stuff) The windows version stayed the same after the reset. The setup told me I was not up to date and now windows update will do it. I hope it works. If it doesn't I'll try using media creation tool to create USB.

I created the USB using the media creation tool from Microsoft's website. When I booted the PC the following things happened:

1. The Lenovo logo came up (3 seconds)

2. Screen blanked (4 seconds)

3. Windows 10 logo came up (5 seconds)

4. The screen blanked and my keyboard and mouse lights went off. (1 second)

5. Occurrences 1-4 keep repeating.

The PC attempts to boot from usb, succeeds for a second and then restarts.

I'm trying windows update again.

I have these updates. I'm thinking what if it says restart for the version 1909 updates, I do that then I let it work on version 22H2 because version 1909 hasn't had all the updates?

The update didn't work with the error code:

This is on a fresh install with no extra apps installed.

Try updating to 2004 first, or some other older version maybe 21h1.
