So I've bought an HP Z400 which works fine but has a failed pump for it's AIO. Reason why I want to fix it is to preserve the originality of the machine. Any idea if it's possible to fix it and what might need fixing ?

Just added this so in case I run into some issues, there's detail about my PC right underneath

PC 1

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X3D | GPU: RTX 3070 | RAM: 2x8GB DDR4 3200mhz | Motherboard: TUF Gaming B450-M Case: Deepcool CC560 | Cooler: darkflash 320mm AIO | PSU: Antec 1000w HCP Platinum

PC 2

CPU: Xeon W3680 (4.41ghz OC) | GPU: MSI Vega 56 Airboost OC | RAM: 20GB DDR3 1600mhz | Motherboard: Asus P6T Case: Zalman R1 | Cooler: Deepcool GAMMAXX GT A-RGB | PSU: Thermaltake Berlin 630w 80+ Bronze

why?

are you building a museum?

the problem with HP, DELL etc.. are propretary parts.. there are 2 options... 1 buy another z400 with a working pump.. or 2  call HP or local parts vendor if they have an AIO pump not sold yet they want out of stock.

tbh.. it's probably just an asetek.

and y'know.. some people just enjoy tinkering with old machines.

on topic: does tha AIO still have liquid in it? might as well be that it just ran dry and froze up, or there's gunk in the pump.

also - not that i recommend this particular source or seller.. but the watercoolers are available:

I hear liquid going through but I do get an error that the pump fan RPM isn't being detected

probably just an iffy connector then, give the connector a good wiggle.

Will try it as soon as possible. Any ideas what else could be an issue if it's not the connector?

as long as coolant is flowing, and the temps are okay, it's probably cable or connector.

another thing it can be is that the fluid in the cooler is low, which makes the pump spin slower (which makes the RPM alarm trigger), but you'll see that in the temps.

Well I was doing a first boot on the PC and it shutdown due to heat. So the temps are surely high

probably just all the liquid's gone out of it then, and that's really your issue.

any means of refilling it that you can find?

Would need to drive roughly 200km to refill :x

i'd assume that if you bought the machine, you have access to it?

I mean I have full access to the computer itself. Bought it due to the price tag that was on it and knew that the AIO wasn't cooling at all basically.

You’re a genius. Since no one would take on refilling it, I’ve tried myself. Drained it and filled the AIO up with distilled water to test if it will leak and if it will work.

The AIO is fully operational! Thanks a lot
