Processor         AMD Ryzen 7 1800X Eight-Core Processor            3.91 GHz

Motherboard     ROG Crosshair VI Hero

GPU                 EVGA Geforce  GTX 1050Ti
Installed RAM    32.0 GB @ 2133 Mhz
System type      64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

I built this pc (1st pc build) several years back with plans to upgrade the graphics card pretty soon, then the crypto mining boom happened and couldn't justify paying such a premium.  It seems the graphics cards are becoming a little more reasonable now...     I just watched the amd presentation on their upcoming rx7900xtx and it looks enticing...   Would there be any issue installing it in my current system if I can get ahold of one?   I know I'm running a dated processor and thinking of waiting and replace everything with am5 next year or 2 (or possibly dropping an updated am4 processor in sooner).

Thanks for the help

What psu do you have?

The make and model.

That 1800x is gonna hold you bqck a lot for high fps gaming BUT your board will easily accept a ryzen 5600 with a bios update which would be a MASSIVE improvement for gaming for about 140$.

LMAO you’ve been running without XMP, turn on XMP in BIOS.

Basically you should just upgrade your CPU- unfortunately the newest bios’s don’t support ryzen 1000, so make sure that you buy a new CPU and wait for it to arrive BEFORE upgrading BIOS as you will not be able to use your 1800X anymore with that motherboard. I recommend the Ryzen 5 5600 (no X) or the ryzen 7 5700x

I'd say the number one item in your PC to update first would be your CPU. Whilst the 1800x was a strong contender at the time, it simply cannot keep up in single threaded performance to where I think a substantial GPU upgrade would make any sense. Considering that your running a pretty damn good motherboard, I'd say best bet is to upgrade to a Ryzen 5000 series (Potentially a 5600 or high?).

Note that as per the post from NF-A12x25, you will need to wait until you've received your new CPU BEFORE you upgrade the BIOS, otherwise you'll end up with a brick until it arrives. Also make sure to enable XMP, unless your RAM is actually only 2133mhz in speed, which would be an odd choice:

Once your CPU is up to snuff, then I'd advise on getting the GPU upgrade you mentioned, you could go with one of AMD's new lineup, or you could take advantage of the used market being flooded with cheaper cards from those going into their next upgrade cycle, just depends on how "Cutting edge" you want to feel!

Thanks    ya so looks like a chip is def needed to boost performance!   just looked at some comparisons between the 1800x and the 5600/5800x  and wow...       like a 30-40% boost...    think I'll go a head and pick one up  and see the difference

That psu should handlr it wait for reviews to see what they say.

Worst case you get it, use it and the systek shuts down in safety.
