Overclocking i7 4770k!!

Go to solution Solved by Faceman,

Ok i will go upto 4.3Ghz max. i hope there is some OC profile for Asus AI Suite III. B'coz i am really noob in this stuff

You can go higher than 4.3 if you want.  It is not a question of how high the Ghz gets, but how high the voltage gets before it starts to get dangerous.  1.0-1.3v is considered safe.  Asus does have a very good automatic overclocking utility.  Here is a video of it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoaAT5TkXc4

I don't think the motherboard that you have can do 4-way optimization, but that isn't a big deal, you can still do everything shown in the video, just not with one click.

Directions how to auto-overclock:

Go into AI Suite III, click the TPU or TurboEVO tab, select auto tuning, and then Ratio First ---> Extreme Tune.

Results may vary, it depends on how good of an overclocker your CPU is.  Its all luck of the chip you get. Asus's auto overclocking is a very safe alternative to manual overclocking, it limits the amount of voltage that can be sent through your chip to a very safe, 1.275v.  Before you stress test, you need to switch the voltage to manual.  Failure to do so could damage your CPU.  Once you have passed all of your stress tests and are happy with the stability, then switch voltage back to adaptive.

Hi guyz,

I want to overclock i7 4770k from 3.5GHz to 4.4GHz. My MOBO is Asus maximus VI Hero and my CPU Cooler is Cooler Master Hyper 212 evo.

Is my CPU Cooler is enough to handle overclocking i7 4770K to 4.4 GHz?

Do i have to Update BIOS before Overclocking or should i keep to stock BIOS & overclock? (I am running Win 8.1 x64 and Win 7 x64)

How should i do overclocking?

your cooler should be able to handle about 1.2-1.25V.

Check out my OC guide and give er a ride.

Your cooler is fine.  Update everything, BIOS, Drivers, etc..

Also, try doing the Asus AI Suite Extreme Tuning, I had really good results with it.

@CapKiller_Ram

@LoGiCalDrm Makes a really good point, it is all about luck when it comes to overclocking.  You have no idea how your chip is going to perform until you get in there and start tweaking the settings.  Here is a good video that demonstrates the silicon lottery.  Paul from Newegg.com does an automatic overclock of 7 different i7-4770ks, and the results vary.  The worst results were 4.4Ghz, the best were 4.8Ghz.

The vast majority of people tell you to not automatic overclock, but I had very good results myself, and as you can see in the video, some favorable results.  The Asus auto-OC is very safe, it limits the amount of voltage to 1.275, a very "safe" voltage.  Just remember to switch your voltage to manual/constant before running any stress tests.  Once you pass the stress tests, you can set your voltage back to adaptive.

I am not sure but looking at temperature in AI suite III i am getting 40c-45c at idle. Is this Normal?

here out of room temperature is like 32-35c. dont know how to check room temperature...

It is high for idle, but it is also fairly hot outside.  Idle is not really important.  It is temperatures under load that are more important.  Try and run some benchmark programs to see what your CPU and GPU get up to under load.

Looks ok. For 22C room temp here in more northern areas gives around 35-40C idle temps.
