5700X vs 5800X3D

Hello all,

im currently weighing a 5700X and a 5800X3D. I know the 3D is better, but it’s currently $120 more than the 5700X. Is the jump in price worth it? I have a 2070 Super running a 1440p monitor coming from a 3600 if that matters.

if you dont plan to upgrade your video card in the near future, the 5700X will be excellent.

because you have a 1440p monitor, you wont see the really high fps where the X3D chip will shine.

but when do you want to upgrade your video card, because if you take the 5700X, and you upgrade to something with 3090 like performance in the future, your gpu wont show its maximal performance.

if you upgrade the gpu in 3 years or so, you will probably need a cpu upagrade anyhow.

A 5800X3D in gaming competes with the Ryzen 7000 and Intel 13rd gen, so yes it's worth the $120 for that usage

For anything else it's worse than a 5700X so no 😛

Depends on your budget and if that is possible further depends on how far you want to future proof the computer. The 5800X3D will be the better choice for higher end GPUs in the future but if you are completely fine with your 2070 Super and will stick to 1440p, either one will do just fine. The extra performance is not worth the cost but it would be the fastet chip on AM4 for games. ZEN3 should already give you on average about 20 percent more performance.

Probably not worth it. The differences you see are in select games at 1080p with a 4090 in order to exaggerate the results. At 1440p with a modest gpu, the differences shrink quite a bit. Look for benchmarks of games you actually play at 1440p and see for yourself if there is a big delta.

The other option is the 5900x if you use your computer for a little of everything. Very good gaming performance and the extra cores make for a nicer overall machine. In my honest opinion, the 5800x3d is over hyped and barely sold over the past 6 months. Everyone agreed it wasn’t worth the extra cost over the 5800x or worth giving up the extra cores on the 5900x. When Ryzen 7000 turned out to be a bit disappointing in the gaming benchmarks, it made the 5800x3d look a little shinier. But, it’s still over hyped and the results are over exaggerated.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I am considering upgrading the card depending on the pricing of the new AMD cards that have yet to be announced (namely their 4070 competitor), so it sounds like it might be wise to get the 5800X3D.
