Only using 8 pin in an 8 to 8+6 pin power cable

It’s gonna be same regardless. It’s just a cable. The same way it is on 90% of cables today.
You aren’t using every plug on your sata and perf cables right?

I just recently bought a Dell T5810 workstation (I know it’s definitely not the fanciest of setups). It came with a 425W PSU, so it didn’t come with a power cable since it couldn’t support it. So I ordered a 825W (W1FJK, hopefully it works).

This tower has a power supply board that the PSU connects into, with an open 8 pin port. Now I also have to order an power cable to power my GPU (1660 TI) which takes only one 8 pin connector. So I’m considering buying this ModDIY cable that is 8 to 8+6 pin, because I can’t seem to find a power cable that actually goes from 8 to 8 pin that seems to support the same pin out for the T5810.

So my question is, if I only have one of the 8 pins connected to my GPU, is that going to be an issue? If not, I actually prefer this solution, because it would allow me to upgrade my GPU later on.

Also, if there’s any other issues you think I should maybe know about, or even just more information I can provide, I would be more than willing to share. Thanks!

That’s fair, and about what I expected (mainly because of what you mentioned about the sata and perf cables), just wanted to be 100% sure before I started a fire or something.

Also, just so I’m correct though, the type of cable does matter though correct? Like it needs to be certified to work with the T5810, because those cables could have different pin outs? Or can I just buy whatever 8 to 8+6 pin I want?

It has to be the correct cable for the psu. Pinouts vary.
