A buddy of mine recently gifted me his G skill Trident Z neos. I have G still Trident disease but they're just the standard 3200s and his are 3600. I know that I can overclock mine to 3400 fairly easily and without the risk of them dying so my question is if I match up the cas latency and lower the neos to 3400 with my msi b550 tomahawk would I be able to run them together as a full quad channel

They should run quad channel regardless of any alterations at a reduced speed both support

You won't get quad channel memory, because your board and CPU only support dual channel, but you will be able to get the additional capacity. As to whether or not they will all work together, there's no guarantee. Running 4 sticks puts more strain on the memory controller in the CPU.

All that said, downclocking generally just works, so you'll probably be fine.
