CPU upgrade for old system

Go to solution Solved by Gaida.exe,

Well yes, that's exactly what I was also thinking and came to the same conclusion.

I want to upgrade my graphics card in like 3 years, and I am hoping to still keep the CPU or have an easy upgrade.
So this would fit both Intel and AMD, but I don't think my DDR4 will still be good at that time.
I think I would be more willing to choose AMD if the productivity performance would be higher, since I play games mostly for high quality settings and the CPU is most likely the programming bottleneck.
Which could also be less relevant, since I just do hobby programming at my home PC, which does not need the fastest compile times.

Maybe someone else has an opinion, but I think it now screams AMD, when the prices get lower.

Hello fellow enthusiasts,

currently, I'm looking for a CPU upgrade for my system. It grew unevenly due to shortages and good deals.
My use cases are: gaming, real time rendering development and sometimes a bit of C4d+Blender rendering (usually just a few frames).

What would you recommend?
7600X (my cooler works with it)
13600k DDR4 (with old 3000 RAM?)
13600k DDR5
Or anything else to consider?
I'm in Germany, so I have the German PCPP.
I'd like to spend 600€, but if convinced, I could also squeeze out 800€.

PS: a friend of mine already showed interest in buying my CPU and motherboard, but not the RAM (maybe relevant for 13th Gen)

Totally depends on what you want.

Based on what you said and what you already have Intel 13000 series + existing DDR4 would suit you the best I think. But then it is expected that you keep that configuration longish-term, and your next upgrade would be full CPU + mobo + RAM.

You could also jump to AM5 + DDR5 with the expectation that AMD keeps the compatibility with the upcoming CPU lineups. And when that happens you will be able to upgrade just the CPU. But this has not been fully confirmed anywhere.

I mean you could also try to sell your ram and get DDR5 with Intel 13000 series. Then your next upgrade would be mobo+cpu since intel will most likely break the compatibility.
