First Boot = Failed

Go to solution Solved by Guest Generallee,

Okay bro, you need to do some basic troubleshooting here

Unmount everything, get the system out of the case

Mount only the basic components outside of the box

Leave only one stick of ram, no hdd, use integrated graphics and see if it Posts

It could be a faulty PSU, as well as a simple front panel connector problem

Yesterday, the last part to my new computer arrived, my case.

We decided it would be fun to build it.

When we finished, it wouldn't boot.

My GPU has two green lights on it.

Whenever we try to boot:

The fans on my GPU spin.

The Corsair logo on my H100i lights up for a second and the fans start up then shut down.

The "AudioBoost" logo thing on my motherboard also lights up for a second as well.

The pre-installed case fans don't turn on, but I'm pretty sure that's my fault.

I think I didn't plug in the front panel connectors correctly, but I don't think that would stop the whole system from booting up.

At first, I thought it might be the power supply connectors because when I first installed my power supply, the 24 pin kept falling out of the power supply when I was routing it to the motherboard. I still need to work on the power supply to see if this could be the case.

Next, I started thinking the CPU might have been DOA. I got it from MicroCenter so if people think this is the problem then I'll contact them.

Here are some pictures of the system, I know the cables look terrible but I planned on fixing them after the system booted up. Sorry about the quality.

In this picture, you can see that the GPU has one red light and one green light. I'm not sure why this is, both were green when I built it yesterday, so this is another thing that made me think the problem is with the power supply connectors.

In this last picture, you can see the "AudioBoost" light up.

I can't really see, but is the CPU power 8pin at the top left plugged in?

you'd be surprised. I once had the same exact problem and it ended up being a faulty fan adapter. Things like that can cause a short which will make the PSU shut down immediately after turning on. Does you PSU make a clicking noise when you try to boot?

Try always to pretest your system the way Generallee described, it can save you a lot of time and headache! I would say that it acctualy might be a problem with those connectors and that your PSU is schutting down caused by a short.

some thing you need to check:

Read the manuals and check off every instruction as you go and make sure you did everything right, take your time.

Check all your cables, are they all securely in place and are they pulling to much on the connector?

Check your motherboard, are there any scratches or dents that could indicate failure or are the stand-offs not dont properly?

Did you put in your cpu the right way?  Putting it in wrong can cause allot of problems including death to both the cpu and cpu socket.

Try manually start the computer with the front panel power button, or if your motherboard has an on-board power button press that.

Alright, I took out my graphics card and plugged in all the front panel connectors the right way.

But now, nothing powers on at all.

Alright, so, first I plugged in all the front panel connectors properly.

I also pushed down on all the other cables to make sure they were all in properly.

I tried booting with integrated graphics, it worked.

Plugged in my graphics card, it worked again.

Thank you everybody who helped, this computer is a MAJOR upgrade over my horrible laptop and its AMD APU.
