Hello, I just got a used 3080 MSI VENTUS X3 from a friend who used it in 3D designs, he only used for 4 months.

I plugged the gpu everything works perfect but I am too disappointed in the performance of the GPU, I have ryzen 5 3600 and 16gb ram 3200, I previously had a 3050 MSI VENTUS x2, and I feel like I'm getting the same performance, there are no changes in FPS, my friends with 3060 ti run the game better than me with 3080

is there anything to consider ? maybe I'm getting a bottleneck?

I downloaded DDU to clean all previous drivers coz I thought maybe it was the casue buT nothing happened.

please help me I'm really disappointed

Edit : i was told maybe my motherboard is causing the problem, I use a b450m ds3h which is kinda old.

Make sure your BIOS is up to date and you are running XMP/DOCP and that AMD PBO is on. This will let your RAM run at is rated speeds.

All in all though, the 3600 might have a hard time feeding the 3080 to its "fullest" Potential, but it should still be quite a boost from a 3050.

What resolution are you gaming at? Also what games have you tested?

Sorry I probably edited my post. Refresh plz. Build Specs Below.

After you used DDU did you install Geforce Experience and get the GPU up to date? If you are just using the driver Windows update gets that will be a problem, usually they are out of date and it could even just be a generic driver or even the wrong one.

Please make sure all other system updates are complete as well. Bios, chipset, Windows, etc. Make sure you are getting them from the manufacturer site and are not just using Windows update.

Also what games and resolution are you testing this on, some games, depending on your settings and resolution may get the same performance as the old card did.

What makes you feel the performance is lacking? Just a gut feeling doesn't say anything. You need to have some benchmarks to compare against pre/post to see the difference/improvements and if there is any bottlenecks like CPU, RAM etc...

How do I update those things?

I used it in the game I play the most ( PUBG ) at 1920x1080, I'm getting the same FPS i was getting with the 3050

Well from 3050 to 3080 is a huge jump, and I literally felt 0 imrovments as I am getting the same FPS I was getting on 3050

and yeah, I've watched some benchmarks and there is a difference if you compare them to mine

You need to test other games, run some actual benchmarks. In order to update the other stuff you need to go to the support page for your motherboard on the manufacturer website and on the downloads tab download and install any updates it needs. If you've never done even a simple update like that before I wouldn't recommend you attempting a bios update yourself, watch videos on how to do it and see if it's something you can comfortably do yourself. But again this could all just be because PUBG is shit, test some other games or run benchmarks if you can, don't just rely on PUBG.

it is.

This is why. Vsync locks your FPS to your monitors refresh rate. So if its a 60hz panel, it will lock your FPS to 60fps and so no. Disabled Vsync and you will see a difference in FPS.

Nevermind, reread my original statement, Vsync is DISABLED.. not Enabled.

I feel and I am sure that's not the performance I am supposed to get, I am literally getting the same FPS, in fights I get from 80-90 and in mid game I get around 100 to 125, which is the same as the 3050, my friend have the same pc as mine with a 3060 ti and he runs it with 160+ when I get 125...

thats why I asked, I don't know if the motherboards causes these things

yeah I agree but I only play PUBG proffessionally, I don't really play other games nor I don't know what I would get with the 3050 & with the 3080 in other games.

I can confirm that pubg is shit in terms of game optimization, however its really weird where people with lower gpu than mine are getting a better FPS than me..

If you play PUBG professionally, do you not have resources or a sponsor to help you build competitive rigs for it?

And if you play professionally, can you not afford a better setup?

BIOS is updated by going to the support page for your MoBo and going to the downloads and seeing if there are any updates. If there are you usually download a file you put on a USB stick then you MoBo should have a BIOS utility on it to update. You could probably find YouTube tutorials for your motherboard.

For XMP/DOCP, it would be a setting in your BIOS, sometimes under overclocking settings, sometimes under advanced. But it would be a drop down selector for XMP or DOCP with your actual memory timings. Again, another tutorial you could probably look up. This one is a little less specific as its just a simple drop down setting.

If they have better CPUs then that could be the reason. Especially at 1080p, PUBG will be CPU bottlenecked first with a 3080.

That's what I thought, I am getting a ryzen 7 5700x and a gigabyte x570 motherboard, I hope that solves everything.

Download MSI Afterburner and run that to show graphs. You can see the GPU usage / cpu usage etc. Run that when you play pubg and see what it shows.

Also, Alt+Z ingame to pull up the nvidia ingame menu... go over to the cog symbol, then hud layout, then enable the fps counter.

Basically, what we need at min is the GPU Usage %, the CPU Usage % , and what FPS you are getting while you're playing a game.

Honestly, if you are just gaming and not video editing or anything, a 5600x should do the trick, It will perform almost identical in games to the 5700x; you could save $80 this way too. Also a B550 board should be enough unless you want more PCIe Gen 4 lanes.

You really should try the suggestions I made though as if you upgrade your CPU and motherboard but still don't enable XMP/DOCP and AMD PBO your performance will be the same.

IF everything I mentioned before does not help:
I would start with the just the CPU upgrade (getting a 5600x) and keep the motherboard you have, It supports Ryzen 5000 (with a BIOS update) and wouldn't effect your overall FPS. You could save a lot of money this way.

I hope the cpu will solve this issue, I've already ordered it, my friend mentioned this xmp in bios, I think I enabled it beacause I wasn't using my rams at 3200mhz, it helped a little bit.

also when I was in game my gpu performance was 40% and cpu was like 60% so if I get the x5700 you think my pc will perform just perfectly? or there is something else

because apparently the cpu is causing all of this according to 2 of my friends, also the motherboard plays a little part ( beacuse of the heat sync or idk )
