RX 7900 or 6950 XT?

Squanchy

Hey all,

As the new cards gets released on Dec 13th...

What are the actual odds that they will be in stock to buy? I can only imagine once they get released they'll be sold out for a long time, and be really hard to buy. I'm building a PC and will have everything by the end of the month, I was going to get a 6950 XT as its around 3090 performance and its price cut is down to 800.

I would absolutely love to get a 7900, but I feel I wouldn't be able too for a few month as stock will probably sell out.

Note: I'll be gaming on a 1440p display, feel the 6950 XT has enough power to be at 1440p for awhile yet.

Thoughts? Stick with the 6950 XT or wait and hope I can get a 7900?

If you haven't bought the 6950xt yet, just hold off for benchmarks to verify AMD's claims.  Look for the 6900xt near $600 as well, possibly.

Depends on your budget, price/performance level, and actual need.

Do you need 3090 level performance?  Or just want it?  Will it really make a difference you can notice?  Questions I had toi ask myself as well.

Fyi, the 6900xt is more than plenty for 1440p for a while yet, so the 6950xt will be as well.

It's all want, I could easily get by with a 6750 xt for half the price (Which I am considering haha)

I'll be gaming at 1440p and not 4k.

Yep, you could probably keep that 1070Ti for 1440p too a bit longer probably.  🙂

But what's the fun in that?!

At 1440P, yeah there's not really a reason to go above a 6900 XT. Personally daily one of those cards at 4K60, and the only setting that can't max out at native res is MSAA. At 1440P 144Hz it should be pretty much the same situation.
