Advice about intel micro engineering internship

Hey, I applied to intel micro engineering first degree and passed the first level which was checking my school graduation.

I've never been to much of a fan of micro engineering I found it interesting but I'm not too sure if I was to invest 2 years and learn every day which means I can't work.

I already have CCNA and also been making some moves on the help desk internships

Any advice maybe ?

Huh? 2 years internship? Can't work?
You mean to say you're not going to get paid for 2 years?

Not all internships are unpaid and I do not believe Intel has a 2 year internship program that does not pay interns.

No I will be paid 1.5k which is around 400$ a month Israel cost to live is quite high, the minimum salary is 5.4k nis.

I can handle it though because I don't live alone so I don't pay rent and I think 1.5k can cover travel.

I'm just kinda worried that it's not something I want because it's such a big commitment, considering I manage to pass everything intel may or may not employ me, for 2 years after they could employee me and I'd have to answer.

So they use interns as cheap labour. That's so cool of them. /s

If you start an internship and you realize you really hate it and feel that you aren't learning any valuable skills or experience, then speak with your supervisor if another role or ending your internship would be best for you and the company.  The goal is to find good employees and train them to be skilled workers, for the business but your skills and experience will be transferable to other companies and industries.  Just because the program is for 2 years doesn't mean you are locked in for that time.

No, they hire untrained interns and pay them as they teach and train them.  Have you ever gone to university and paid thousands of dollars to the institution to do your professors grant research before?

So my problem is that if I quit I have to pay full price back, considering I can't work during those times and I'm not even including the most likely dept it will get me in.

This is why I think it might be a double edged sword. One of my friends in help desk told me they had that degrees and the only work he had was getting under machines or fixing the machines building the storage and CPUs, I've tried to find out the job routine but even on my intel interview they were very vague.

On the other hand it'd make my parents "proud" and it's a valid degree for essentially 4 year of intel shackles.

I also wanted to add that I do have CCNA knowledge and in December I'll be taking the exam, around 1 year experience in help desk, and a website I made *if anyone can tell me if it's bad or good https://lias-tech-lab.net*.

I think that I'm in customer service rn because I have social anxiety.

Doing network help desk sounds less fun than being an intern at Intel fixing machines if you have social anxiety.

Any enginnering internship worth its salt is paid. Most unpaid interns are in the none technical roles like those found in social works, humanities, films, and some bussiness positions.

Working in semiconductors means you will be picking up very niche and very specific skillset which are none transferable if you decide to quit and work elsewhere because pretty much nowhere else outside of these employers will need these skills. This is the same issues faced by employees who worked in Taiwanese semiconductor fabs like TSMC for example. They usually stay working for the same company for life because their skills are so specific, they will pretty much need to start from scratch if they are to hop jobs.

Also, curious, if you are Isrealis, have you done your military service yet? from what i heard, the isrealis army usually provide the job training, networking, and referral like an unofficial mandatory public vocational training school before passing the workers into the civlian workforce. Many isralis employers used the candidates units, ranks, and grades back when they were in the miliatry to determine their hirability.

Yeah at the end I denied their offer, would have done it for the minimum salary but 1.5k is too little.

And yes and no about the military it's a little bit complicated because I was in training but got kicked in the middle for having a melt down.

I'm getting some nice offers, from good help desk places. trying to avoid the huge 4k users area

You should take it.

Get the experience.

After 6 months, if you think you're wasting your time at such a prestigious company, ask for a raise.

If they say no, then apply for other jobs.

Don't quit until you have something.

After 1 year, ask to be made a full time employee.

I got accepted to a big lawyer company I'm a sys admin, to be honest I was doubting my self with all that and was scared but the manager really likes me and I'm genuinely happy.

I'm a full time worker and I work for the company it self, my boss is also really nice he gives me fun challenges and lets me handle most stuff by my self

Good.

You can stay at this company then. Computer technician at a law company is definitely a safe position.

Glad you found a job you really like and aren't stressed by Intel.
