Windows 4TB derpage?

Hello fellow LTT users. So I bought a 4TB drive to go with my new PC, build the thing and everything works like magic, except one thing. I partitioned the drive (I have a HyperX 3k as a boot) after I got my basics setup, and Winderps would only let me partition up to 2TB of it into a single drive letter. So I go about doing this and then realize: I now can no longer partition my other half. When I right click to partition the other half every option is greyed out and I cannot do anything to fix it. Thanks for taking the time out to read and any help would be appreciated.

Choose GPT instead of MBR.

It could be an issue with your motherboard/BIOS. What motherboard do you have?

He probably partitioned it as MBR not GPT.

MBR has a limit of 2TB.

This, but keep in mind that some motherboards need to have a driver installed (like mine) to use drives 3TB or larger.

 

And MBR can only handle 2TB.

Ahh yes, had an Asrock 775 board which needed an 3tb+ *unlocker* as they called it or smth.

My board has that driver thing too. Damn ASRock. OC panel causes a bluescreen after 4 hours of running (even in the background) and the heatsink is too damn small and gets too hot.

AsRock was the lowest of the lowest around 4+ years ago. But their quality got decent. Actually i am becoming a fanboy of their smaller server boards. They are targeted extremely well while other manufacturers are providing jack of all trades boards or standard ones. look at the server atom boards. Supermicro offers awesome boards but they just aren't built for storage at all from my point of view when looking at the ports. the AsRock boards target soho/smb extremely well. And like i said their quality just got so much better since they started building servers and workstations.
