I was just wondering.

With hotswap keyboards couldnt you make a "jumper" switch?

Send a input signal directly to the pcb and then analyse usb to check the output.

This would remove the switch as a variable.

As you have direct control over the input. No more need for a robotic arm.

 

Then you have the time from input signal to change on usb bus.

This could also be done to non- hotswap keyboards by soldering cables to the contacts of one switch. Most probably thats something they already thought about. By the way, since the pinout of these switches is more ot less standard, you can also use pogo pins instead of solder.
