Heyo,

So I'm wondering if I should upgrade my CPU or GPU. As of now i have a ryzen 7 5800x which I would upgrade to a ryzen 9 5950x if I upgraded that.

Right now I have a 3060 vision, and if I would upgrade it would be to a 3080ti or something like that.

I'm thinking that I should upgrade my GPU because if I did upgrade my CPU it would only be bottlenecked by the GPU.

What do you think?

For either of those, new GPU is the better bet. In games, unless you're shooting for 240Hz or something the 5800X will keep up with any card on the market. Blender can render on the GPU far faster than on the CPU, so unless you need to do CPU rendering for some reason, new GPU is the better option there as well.

GPU then, if you have to.  CPU upgrade for gaming won't gain near as much.

Then again, are you going 1440p or 4k gaming?

Kinda sounds like you haven't thought this out really, as a whole slew of new products are out that would be better upgrades.

That's why you wait 2-3 months for midrange cards to come out. Why would you buy something that's on it's very last legs, especially when you have a 3060 that is totally capable at the moment.

Should be able to get a 3090 or even a 3090TI for 1000 as prices are shifting lower and lower.

Also, you can keep what you have and save up for a full upgrade later, skipping this new generation. Your setup is fine as is.

I said you didn't think it thru as the CPU upgrade is really nothing at all, and the GPU upgrade is only needed if you move up resolutions which you don't seem to be doing.  I wouldn't upgrade if I were you, personally.

With that budget, just wait 2 weeks. AMD will announce RX 7000 on November 3rd, and if rumors are correct it will be very good, possibly better than the 4090, and you'll (hopefully) get a 7800 XT or 7900 XT in that budget.

That CPU upgrade would be almost completely frivilous for most uses. In general the way I'd describe CPU performance is with the old adage of "Having it isn't everyhting, not having it is".

A 3080 Ti would be far more noticeable. I do agree with Pixelfie though about waiting and seeing with the RX 7000 series.

Why would you upgrade such a new system? Why didn’t you buy a system that met your performance needs the first time?

Now, personally I’d just start searching on Craigslist/Facebook/other sales places for a $250-300 6700xt. That’ll be a nice bump from your 3060 and the 3060 you have is probably worth $250 or so. So, basically free upgrade and call it a day.

Why that is possible in the current market I do not know, but it is so act fast and score yourself a deal.
