I have a 12900kf with an 850W psu (2 EPS leads plugged into mobo) and turbo boost enabled in bios. For some programs like Arnold the CPU will boost as much as it can and pull over 350W peak whereas in blender and meshroom (being the two examples I am running into at the moment it draws an average 180W not turbo boosting at all. Without rebooting or changing any settings it will boost with 3ds max for example. Does anyone know why it wont boost in blender and meshroom as they can both take a long time so getting the increased performance would be really helpful.

Not sure what exactly turbo boost is in this instance.  Computers imho should just have the word “turbo” stricken from their lexicon.  A turbo is a rather specific kind of air pressure increaser for piston engines.  Has nothing to do with electronics.  Using the word for that purpose merely confuses things.  It might as well be “secret magic boost” or something.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

This is what I am referring to:

Ah.  So just “boosting” then. Intel’s fault apparently.  They’re probably already regretting that one.  Cpu boost is related to heat.  The cpu controls it internally and if it’s cool enough it boosts.  Was originally part of the whole centrino thing iirc. My guess is it is because the thing is already too warm to do it.  I suspect if cooling is improved it will start to do so.  What case and cooler do you got?
