PCI slot issues

Hi,

I have a Gigabyte X570S Master motherboard w/ a 5900X, motherboard has 3 pcie slots.

I currently have slots populated like this:

slot 1 - 3090

slot 2 - pcie nic

slot 3 - unpopulated

m.2 drives - 2 total

 

Ideall I want to move the nic in slot 2 down to slot 3 for room, but when it's installed in slot 3, it does not work properly. The OS sees it, but does not function correctly. Only when I move it back to slot 2 then it works.

Is there some BIOS setting preventing this from working correctly? Or, should it "just work"? Am I out of pcie lanes?

A bit of a long shot, but since I don't know your configuration.

The bottom most PCIE slot is the x4
