Cables and ports disconnect

I thought my graphics card had poor DP ports since they'd disconnect 90% of the way it would be physically connected.

Then I found out it was the same on other graphics cards and even with hdmi.

Nudging the connector around would cause a disconnect.

Please save me from this mad house. I am tired of disconnects!

 

Update:

I had an amazon basics DP cable lying around. Units of this product were validated by Linus

This DP cable has zero disconnects on both the 2nd gpu and on the monitor (@1440p60.

This DP cable would have massive corruption when trying to run at the old settings with 10bit (default after CRU reset).

 

This DP cable works perfectly but at a reduced bandwith. I think it's running at HBR2 instead of HBR3. HBR2 supports 17.28gbit and wikipedia says 1440p144 8 bit requires 14.08gbit. 14.08/8*10=17.6 which doesn't work.

This is still an upgrade over hdmi 2.0 which couldnt do freesync

 

DP before: 10 bit 1440p144 freesync

HDMI: 8 bit 1440p144 nosync

DP now: 8 bit 1440p144 freesync

 

I think it's the GPU's fault. I don't have another DP 1.4 GPU to try.

The old cable when it would connect, would have the same corruption.

 

Further exploration:

I could try and thinker with linux to get a custom 1440p144 to rule out software issues.

 

Votlage and preemphasis override did not fix it either.

 

What I'm asking: I did not find hwo to disable 10 bit in CRU. Is there a way I can ensure it doesn't automatically come on either at reconnect, display reset or startup?

Most DP got a clip where you need to pull down before can disconnected it and sometimes I find it hard to release it.

Have you considered that the cables are the issue? Or the monitor's ports are busted. 

I have 2 monitors on adjustable monitor arms that gets moved on daily basis, I rotate them 180 degrees for desk and bed use, 1 connected with hdmi and 1 dp. They never got disconnected.

It never happen to me before in DP. It is very tided and won't simply loose out. Not happen to my home PC, my work PC.

For HDMI they don't have the clip but also won't loose out by simply nudges it. This also not happen to my home PC, home 2 laptop and also my work PC.

 

I currently still have 5 monitors in use (1 at home, 3 at office, 1 at home town) and also same it is tide and not happen loose out from my monitor part connection as well, either it is DP or HDMI.

Either the clip is damaged, or the graphics card doesn';t have the subsequent latch in it's end.  Very odd tho, and I haven't have HDMI come out from nudges, even on laptops being moved around a desk.

 

I don't think you're fully expressing the movement to us. Nudges don't do this, you're moving shit around a lot.

The cable doesn't come out at all. simply winging it or pulling its angle or tension ever so slightly can cause complete disconnect

You've tried multiple cables?  One with an actual working clip?

 

Try moving the graphics card a little.  I had an issue where I couldn't plug a DP cable into it becauise it was nestled against the slot.  Maybe get the DP opening centered better so the cable can fully click in.

 

What GPU is it btw?

msi 56 vega air boost. had problems from the start with its dp ports
