So i have a wrt54g router and want to flash it with ddwrt because... you know. But i cannot get it to turn on to where i can flash it. when i plug it in a few lights come on then it turns off. I think this began to happen after a lightning strike.

More than likely dead. Can you do a 30/30/30 reset? Browse on the DDWRT Wiki and you'll know what I mean. Also try to see if you can connect with telnet through an ethernet cable connected to the WAN port or from one of the LAN switches.
