First Build, not turning on

So I've been following the video LTT put out and I'M at the point where they say to test it all before putting it in the case. I flipped the PSU on and I can tell it's working because there are some rgb lights on the motherboard now. Nothing's making any noise which I don't know if that's a problem or not but when I turned the monitor on it flashed a blue screen that said the HDMI cable isn't plugged in. Earlier someone else told me that only the Display Port had to be plugged in. Does anyone have an idea of what the problem could be?

I'm embarrassingly technology illiterate. What does that mean exactly and how would I change it?

Oh you're all good. We all started somewhere. On the monitor itself there should be some buttons. One of them is  for the inputs on the back. Press that button. If you tell me what monitor it is I can look up what button you need to push.

Does your motherboard have a Display port input? If so, make sure you do not plug it into there, plug it into the Graphics card.

You didn't actually turn on the computer, you just turned on the PSU. Which provides standby power to the Motherboard, usually by default RGB will light up in standby. Unless you're saying that you actually shorted the power pins on your motherboard with a flathead to try and turn on the system outside of the case.

My main rule is. Never be afraid to look at the manual. You're not less of a man if you do, There is a reason why its there in the first place.

 

On page 10 it tells you what the buttons on the side mean. Press the top button to access the active port.

Okay, I switched it to display port but now it's just saying no display port signal

Okay great. Is the machine plugged in and actually turned on? You may need to jump some pins with a screw driver to actually turn it on

I mean, the PSU has a power switch so yeah it's on

Okay Awesome, The machine is ready to be turned on. Send me over the Motherboard you are using because you may need to jump the power pins to see if it all starts.

Motherboard is a TUF GAMING X570-PRO(WI-FI). Also ASUS

On page 33 of the Manual for your Mobo youll see a set of pins called the System Panel Header.  You're going to want to jump the pins labelled 'PWRSW' With a screw driver. Do this only if you have a CPU Cooler installed along with all the RAM and other essentials that are hooked up to the Motherboard.

Like I stated 7 posts ago. The system is not powered on. The OP just flicked the PSU switch on. This does not turn on the computer.

Okay, I see what you're talking about. What do you mean when you say "jump" the pins? As an aside if you think pictures of anything would be helpful just ask.

Ok yeah, I saw a video on it and it looks pretty simple. Just because I'm overly cautious, how do I turn it back off to put it in the case? Just turn off the PSU or what?

Alright! Good news, everything seemed to turn on, including the M&K. However the monitor still said no Display Port signal.

Mess with the active display port in the monitor settings, Those buttons on the side of the monitor

Everything finally worked, I got into the BIOS, and I think I'm good to go now. Thank you so much for all this help, I know it was probably frustrating. Now I just have to take it all apart, put it in the case and do this all over again... *sigh*
