Difference between fittings?

I've seen a bunch of fitting types (ex. compression, monsoon, etc.) what do these mean? I know everyone says get compression, but what does this mean? Just looks, or reliability?

you have 2 types of fittings, bards which need zip ties to make it not spill water all over your precious PC parts

 

and there are compression fittings, where there is a ring that you screw over you fitting that makes not spill water all over your precious PC parts, which obviously looks better and are used in almost all PC watercooling builds

 

also, monsoon is generaly more expensive than more well know brands

Compressions fittings are a barb fitting with a screw on cap that secure the tubing in place. It looks better than a barb and there is less risk of the tubing slipping off.

 

Monsoon is a company that produces premium compressions fittings, just like bitspower.

Err, have you ever used monsoon products, I can assure you they have better paint and finishes on their fittings than cheap fittings.

Monsoon are quite unique with their look and choice of colours. You can see the tubing through them, but they are very expensive.

"bard" fittings have been mentioned but the actual name is "barb" fittings.
