So this probably a mini rant if anything. Currently I don't feel the need to play video games. I usually like playing a variety of games, the last game I completed was the new tomb raider (re-release). I like a wide majority of genres from racing to rpg to fps.

But as of late, everything feels like a rehash, I can't play BF4 or even CoD, unless I play with some of my serious friends, otherwise it isn't enjoyable for me. Skyrim got boring after finishing the game with most of the side quests and the mods don't really entice me. Minecraft, I can still play modded on my server, but only with friends as we play FTB and take things quite serious, but even that gets boring sometimes.

Have I just gone out of touch, or am I just missing out? Any suggestions to break the monotony of current games? Maybe turn to more Indie games?

Personally, I can't wait for Star Citizen, Watch Dogs, and Destiny, but are there any games you guys can recommend?

Seems like you need to either take a little break or find a game that you truly enjoy.

I don't think your problem has as much to do with the particular games you've played, as much as it does with the nature of humans..

When you over-do anything, it can all start feeling like a rehash, no matter how good it was or used to be.

It's kind of like a writer's block.. I've experienced it, and it's literally the contextual definition of a brain fart.

As far as gaming specifically, this happens to me every-so-often. Almost once every 3-4 months. I get to the point where I think to myself "Omg, why can't I enjoy gaming.. at all! It's pissing me off! The fact of the matter is, if you truly do love gaming, then this is nothing but a phase; and it'll pass.

At least we can all be thankful for games such as the 3 you mentioned coming out soon(er). I think all three are great examples of antidotes for your condition - commonly known as NoLagNoFragAPhobia.

As of now I am enjoying movies and tv series more than usual, probably due to game of thrones and binge watching content on Netflix and YouTube.

Sounds about right. Maybe it just that my life is also busy with college. Also I know that writer's block feeling. I feel the same way about getting to the point when things are not that enjoyable.

It is good to know that I am not alone.

This can happen with any hobby/passion/whatever-you-wanna-call-it from time to time, specially when overdone.

Take a break from playing and find some other way to spend time you enjoy, the desire to play will probably come back eventually.

I swear I always go "I'M GONNA PLAY ALL MY VIDEO GAMES 24/7 DURING MY NEXT VACATION" but usually get bored after the first 3 days.

You're burned out. Go fishing, play some ball, build a model, find a girlfriend (if you don't already have one)... there are other hobbies besides gaming.

Of course, when you really want to play a game again, you could always go back and play something that you missed.

Unfortunately, the genre is currently in a pretty poor state where just about every triple-A title is going to be a copy of itself/something else. We live in a time when innovation and originality aren't profitably predictable, so big-box publishers generally like to avoid these things. I've found games made by smaller studios who don't have a corporate entity breathing down their necks 24/7, forcing them to Ctrl + C/Ctrl + V all day tend to be far more entertaining and interesting.

"A picture is starting to form here... I wonder if it's accurate? Some pieces don't quite seem to fit. Or maybe I just don't like the way it looks."

You're not even close to alone.

As pretty much everyone mentioned, just go find something else to do, and one day you'll wake up going "screw eating, I'm gaming from 9am to 9pm today, I just hope I don't forget to stop breathing."

I miss the days where everyone played starcraft... everyone played cs 1.6... everyone played diablo 2... Such main stream games that you knew most of your friends were going to be playing FOR SUREEE. there are too many games now... too many choices... all your friends are playing different games. It's only fun playing games that your friends are playing. I have alot of gamer buddies who consistently buy a new game, play it for a week, and stop. It pisses me off... Wish I could find some ppl who stuck with a game for a decent amount of time.

Boredom is normal but also people need to learn to relax and have interests that are NOT intense like gaming or other things. In a fast moving world many people don't slow down enough. Try reading a book or do something similar. Give your mind a break from gaming and do something else.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

I think I had the same thing that you had for alittle while, I still have it. I mainly have just been going back and replaying older games that I really liked like Diablo, Far cry 3, Dark souls prepare to die edition etc.

(sneezes) "Sorry I'm allergic to bullshit"

Don't play for a while. Sometimes I get bored too and take a break from playing any game for 2 months. You don't have to play video games, if you feel like you have to play a game every time you turn on your computer that means it's time to take a break.
