Save your money, don't buy something because that is all you can afford.  Trust me, I've wasted more money on my PC in the last few years than anything else!  I've spent thousands on monitors almost reaching $12,000 at this point (and starting in 2001 so almost $1,000 a year) 

 

The way I see it, cheap is not good, but there is a sweet spot.   What you want is an IPS panel and if possible stretch for an 8 or 10-bit panel if you can, if not a good price would be around $300-400 and dell has some ultrasharp IPS monitors around that price point.

But cheap $100 monitors will not look good, but also not perform well either.
