How do you guys store cables?

Alkaid

Wrap them up how they will easily wrap up. Basically with no resistance. Depending on the strength of the outer cable. Use soft velcro cable ties for somthing i think might break easily. If they are strong enough I'll Just use ZipTies with the same method.

I guess every geek has a tons of cables - internet cables, USB A/B/C/Micro, DP/HDMI/AUX, etc. I put all of them into a drawer, and they tangle chaotically. Any advice for storing them properly? Thanks very much.

I tie them in knots.  Double them up until they are of sufficient length to form an easy but tight knot, the knot itself will keep them from tangling as well as crimping, there are not hard angles, just nice curves.

Similar to how people store rope or extension cables in daisy chain form.

I have three drawers.

1. Power cables. Mostly your standard IEC C13 cables, some power strips, a laptop adapter or two.

2. Display/Ethernet cables. HDMI, DP, DVI, VGA, we got it all here! I also threw in my phone line cables.

3. The Cable PackTM. Everything else goes here. USB, FireWire, Lightning, adapters, IDE, SATA, 34-pin floppy and more - it goes here!

I bought one of those cloth cube sleving things and enough cloth cubes to fill it, and then labeled each cube based on the type of cable

Audio/video, power cords, chargers, data transfer (Ethernet, coax, usb), it works well, just make sure to use cable ties otherwise it becomes a pile of spaghetti. After a decade the cubes might need replacement but i think i spent maybe 40 USD on the whole setup excluding the cable ties.

Not the prettiest but i find it works well enough.
