Laptop suggestion - CS Student 550-650USD

Hey!

I'm looking for a laptop for college(Computer Science), I already have a powerful PC at home and really looking for something for on campus use only(I will be returning home daily).

I considered getting a refurbished Surface 3 for around that price but the 8GB non upgradeable ram really put me off it.

I also looked at the Asus VivoBook 15 and 14 lineups but came across some pretty terrible reviews

I'm mainly interested in 12GB+ of ram, capable CPU and battery life that would last me a typical university day.

I would greatly appreciate feedback from anyone with user experience with any of the laptops mentioned or any other recommendations will be most welcome as well as I really haven't made up my mind yes.
