Question about GPU and PSU

Budget (including currency): ~1000€

Country: Spain

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: 95% Gaming 5% occasional video editing and virtual machines.

Current system:

CPU - 3700x w/ Noctua NH-D15

MOBO - ROG Strix B550F

MEM - 32GB 3200MHz

GPU - GTX 970 g1 gaming (OC'd)

PSU - 650W Bronze (Looking for EVGA SUPERNOVA G1+ 1000W 80+ GOLD) link

Display - x2 1080p 144hz (I will buy QHD 165hz in the future)

Meta Quest 2 - x0,8 resolution, medium settings 90hz --> literally VRAM eating machine

 

Aiming for:

1440p 165hz ultra

Quest 2 120hz ultra

Being able to play in "ultra" at least 6+ years like I'm "doing" with the 970

 

I have the Meta Quest 2. I usually play at about 30-80hz depending on the game and is super noticeable.
Last week I played on my cousin computer (3700x RTX3070) and the change in performance is incredible: high refresh rate, lots of resolution, no fps drops but still not able to get up to those 120hz stable...

 

--> Is it too crazy to upgrade to a 4080? I really want to be able to play in ultra settings, high refresh rate for a long time.
I don't know how much VRAM QHD or Quest 2 will devour in future games but if I buy an expensive item, I want it to last.

--> And is the EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G+ 80 Plus Gold 1000W good enough? If not, what PSU should I buy on the 100 - 170€ mark?

 

I've always played on the hardware that my brother gave me after him buying new hardware, but now I'm winning money and can buy things myself....

Used a 3090 is even in the budget

Just dont bother with ultra settings they are gigabs and not worth at all.

 

As for new for 1000 a rx 6900xt is very much so in budget.

 

If there is no rush seeing what the 4090 can do this year wont hurt. You can extrapolate the results from that card to see how a 3090 stacks up to it

Tbh I'm a bit scared about the heat output of those cards xD

But pairing it with a fractal torrent compact should be a good combo
