Hi guys!

I upgrading my dad's old pc and I would really appreciate some advice.

Specs:

  •  i3-2120
  • 8 GB of ddr3 1333mhz ram

  • Gigabyte p8-h61-mle mobo

  • 1 TB sata ssd

It runs ubuntu on the Intel hd2000 onboard graphics and I want to install Windows 10.

To cut to the chase, I'm looking for a second hand gpu, for 1080p movies and media consumption, very light gaming(mostly old nostalgic titles like aoe2 and maybe some csgo).

For a price as low as possible, what gpu do you guys think I should look for?

Thanks for the help,

Maxim.

If you're really going for the cheapest, the GT 1030 or RX 550 should be fine for that use.

For the gaming it might be worth going for a 1060 (3gb or 6gb) / RX 570 / RX 580, though the options above should be enough for the games you mentioned and might be a better option if the PSU is small.

A 1050ti would probably be the sweet spot, above 1030/550, but not nearly as power hungry as a 480/580/1060. With the higher power cards, you'll be running into diminishing returns and may end up CPU bound in games like CSGO. I'm on board with the 710/730/1030 being manufactured e-waste at this point, so I'd steer you away from those.
