Diy plate roll?

Basically i have a roll of metal that i want to unroll and flatten, best way to do that it seems is with plate roll machines but i aint buying that crap so ill just diy instead

 

I was thinking of using either of these 2 wooden rolling pins as my plate roll

Ill be using a few of them and in an arrangement like this but add 2-4 extra rolling pins on the ends

 

 

The questions are

Would this work? I assume if the wood is tough enough itll work, after all im only working with 1mm thiccness

 

Any other alternatives? I kinda doubt using a mallet or a hammer would work but maybe it could? Idk
