Testing motherboard

Hi

could I try to power the mobo I have fans psu and motherboard currently installed, everything else is on the way over the next two weeks but inpatient syndrome is getting the better of me could I see if the fans spin up and then just turn it off.

I can't guarantee it will start without a cpu. It might, but I wouldn't try. If you have a CPU, you could try it, but you would have to immediately shut it down, because the cpu will overheat, and could get damaged

You will get error code of no CPU, but nothing more. Even if you would have wrong BIOS version for CPU you are using, it would go through couple more checks, but it will check for CPU first.
