GPU Fans No Longer Spin With Nvidia Drivers

Hey folks, I have a Gainward Phantom GS RTX 3080. Today, I installed the new NVIDIA drivers and since then, my GPU fans no longer spin when set to Auto configuration. The card has three fans, and only one of them spins when the PC is idle. During load (in a game), all fans kick in as normal and the temps remain the same, but during idle, the temps settle at 53C and the two of the fans don't spin. Prior to the driver install, all fans spun at around 1300rpm and the idle temps were 40C. If I manually turn on the fans at 30%, they all work. I can also set a fan speed curve but I would prefer to keep at Auto so it can manage on its on.

 

What I have tried so far:

- DDU uninstall and re-install the drivers.

- Re-installed Gainward's Expertool software

- Checked all settings and everything

 

PC config:

Intel i5 114400

Gainward Phantom GS RTX 3080

16GB RAM

500GB nvme ssd

 

I understand that on idle, some GPU fans don't kick in but with temps so high on idle, they should be. They were before and I would like to have that. Any help regarding this? I haven't changed anything in my settings, it just suddenly started to happen.

Same thing happened to me years ago when I updated my display drivers.  I am still using that card.  I mean to say, there has been no damage to the card from over heating.  The driver update made the temp response settings better.

It must be true, I read it on the internet...

Yeah, I mean, the card won't be damaged but it constantly running at 55C wears it out somewhat and I don't want that to happen. I am running a manual curve right now, which is somehow better than auto for some reason. On manual, 1300rpm, the idle temps are 30C and load temps are normal 70C. Before on auto, the idle temps were 40C at 1200-1300rpm. Weird.

I don't have good luck with tech and things not breaking, so I am taking all precautions.

 

How do you mean by temp response getting better, though?

Lol, just...guessing? Anything that runs that hot has to wear down somewhat. Plus, Gainward isn't a big, known brand and I don't trust their final quality. I only bought it because it was the cheapest I could find.
