Buy now or wait

I am thinking of upgrading to lga1700.

The question is should I wait till 13th gen.

I took a picture of the prices.

MOBO - STRIX B660 I GAMING

 

I have also heard that some 12th gen motherboards will support 13th gen cpu.

How big are the chances of the asus board working with 13th gen. 

Is there even any benefit to waiting?

You could always wait for 13th gen to come out and buy 12th when it happens because prices will drop. But i3s wouldnt get much cheaper. up to you, i would just wait for 13th gen to come out then buy 12th.

100%. They've already released a BIOS for it to support next gen processors.

You'll get a better CPU for the same amount or the same CPU for cheaper. That said, next gen Intel i3s are likely not gonna release till January, so keep that in mind, and you'd be waiting a while. I wouldn't worry about buying now.

I wouldn't get this motherboard for what you're doing. It's a $200 board for a $100 CPU, you're better off getting a $150 board and a $150 CPU instead. Also is there a reason you want to go ITX and DDR5? Both of those just remove budget that you'd be better off spending on a better CPU.

What's your current rig?

There are some chances of 12th gen dropping in prices when 13th gen releases, but it's hard to tell currently.

As for your upgrade plan, I'm a bit confused.

If your case is mini itx them there's nothing you can really do there, but if not then I'd get a matx like the b660 steel legend or msi pro b660m instead.

For the cpu choice, the 12400f would make more sense since it's going to last longer than what a 12100f would.

Subsequent ddr4 swap since ddr5 dosent have a lot of benefit over ddr4

All 12th gen boards should support 13th gen with a bios update when they're released 

 

Can't say for the benefits since the new gen will probably be similarly priced then 12th gen and will be released early next year

if you don't need the upgrade, waiting only has benefits.

I was thinking of getting it and replacing the 12100 somewhere down the line.

Was thinking of a 12600 or something in the 13th gen lineup.

Also have a mini itx case.
