Yeah, a new board really isn't that bad an idea. That board is pretty mediocre, and given what I've seen with those initial AM4 BIOS's by MSI (they've got a reduced BIOS chip capacity, so the BIOS had some major features removed from it in order to support current gen AMD CPUs), I'd probably want to get a new board if I were going to go Ryzen 5000. 

 

Also, double check Intel's offering in terms of price, the 12400F is about the same performance and is usually slightly cheaper. Not always, but just figured you might as well check since it might save you ~$20.
