GPU question

so i just got  a 3080 and when i went to install it i noticed i only had 2 pcie 8pin slots on my psu and the 3080 ha 3 so im currently using one of the sata 8pin slots for the 3rd one and its working but im wondering if its safe/ should have i done this

no, i would stick to the cables/slots meant for pci. what psu is it? you had a third pci cable, but no third pci spot on the psu? the psu spots for sata i've seen are 6 pin..

i have the corsair rm850x gold

That has 3 pci slots on the psu(5 for cpu/pci if it’s the same as my rm750), and the sata spots should be 6 pin. Double check to make sure.
