Cybersecurity advice

Hey, I'll make it brief. I'm 19 and I've been a pretty online person for most of my life. I would say I'm more technologically literate than about 80% of people, but ignorant when it comes to more advanced stuff. Security has never been something I cared much about bc I never did anything of importance on my PC.

Fast forward I've started a successful business in the past year and I'm handling all of my bookkeeping, business records on my PC and regularly logging into all my financial institutions.

Because I have something to lose now, I've started worrying about my cybersecurity more. I already have differing passwords across all my vital logins and use 2 step every time it's available. Like I said before I've been online most of my life so I'm not falling for sketchy links or anything like that either.

Is there anything else I should or could be doing? I've heard the popular VPN's are scams, not sure if that's true or not. Looking for a little advice

Password manager is a big one. That allows you to have a unique password for every single login you have since you don’t need to remember your password anymore.

That + 2 step are big. After that, don’t open up ports on your router, don’t open PDF’s or word docs from unknown sources, and good luck.

Popular VPNs you mean the free ones? They are not a scam but the free ones often have data leakage.

When you use a VPN, your ISP cannot see what pages you are accessing, but the provider that is giving you the VPN service can see it.

If someone wants to find you, he will even find you using a VPN. You can use the Tor or Proxy browser to hide more on the internet, but I haven't heard of companies using this.

What does your company do?
