Looking to do some Voice Over work on the side, separate from my day job. Mostly looking at audiobook narrating for the time being. What would be a good audio setup? Thinking of some form of large diaphragm condenser microphone, but no idea what brands are good for this sort of thing. Also what should I use as an interface, and what kind of phantom power issues do I need to be aware of. Mixer/audio interface, etc..

From what I can tell, I need the following items:

Microphone

Headphones

Interface/Mixer

Looking for input/recommendations. Total budget I'm looking to keep it under $500.

you could get a shure sm7b or mv7 / x and a scarlett 2i2 interface for around 500$ and it would work just fine till you can save up and get an inline signal booster to get extra clean gains on the volume with something like the cloudlifter cl-1 later on.

SM7B is the biggest meme of a microphone, just don't unless you want to be laughed at by literally anybody in r/microphones including Behringer Uli himself.

Get a setup like this:

https://www.amazon.com/PreSonus-Studio-24c-USB-C-Interface/dp/B07L9MWWDK?th=1

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1312224-REG/lewitt_lct_240_pro_condenser_microphone_fet.html

Headphones, I'm not the most knowing down there but this setup does leave you cash to spare.

@Motifator Just to ask the question: How does this microphone compare? I know nothing of brand quality in this department, so I have no idea how good this is...

Presonus has the Studio One software which is industry acclaimed and very good. I prefer it to the software of other interfaces I own, as such, it would get my vote. Also, it's got some Burr-Brown codecs that are pretty good. Not Motu M2 level good, a bit below... but the software makes up for it with ease.
