WHY YOU NO iDRAC

Maybe they don't have an Enterprise license?

That looks like an R510; those would have iDRAC 6 so they'd leave you stuck with the Java client. (12th gen and newer get the HTML5 client.)

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

I always hated the Java client on normal IPMI. Not the most reliable. Especially if Java decided to update.

Ive briefly worked with iLO so you have a good point. Probably the license but if you know where to look and who to talk to you can usually get one.

IIRC iLO only requires a Standard License. It'd be my expectation that iDRAC is similar.

You need iDRAC Enterprise for KVM-over-IP and virtual media. (The "base model" licenses don't enable these features.)

iLO Standard lets you use remote KVM for the BIOS, but it sounds like you need an Essentials or Advanced license for remote KVM inside the OS.

I'll have to plug my DL380p back in and check again because maybe I am remembering wrong. All I remember for sure is with no license you can only KVM the BIOS. With some license you can KVM the OS. I want to say that was the Standard Lisense but maybe it was Essentials or Advanced.

@NeedfuldoerYou got me. Standard License is "no license".

I'm still going to hold onto the argument though that if he decides he wants to use iDRAC there's ways of making it happen.

The 4U rack server on a coffee table is almost a meme in my world. Dell / HP should offer this option in the server config drop downs. Choice of faux walnut or Walmart black.

Popular choice for 501cs all over my world. Don't laugh. Much easier to move than a fixed rack, and for employee Bday parties you can always set the server on some milk cartons to make rom for the roast beef sandwiches and tater salad.
