So I opted to do the smart thing and buy a kayak instead of an ultrawide, then I sat down and went, "Hm, that discoloration in the top left is getting worse...and now there's a burned-in image."

So, yeah. Here's what I've got, and I can't decide between these three:

https://www.amazon.com/Philips-328E1CA-Adaptive-Sync-Speakers-Replacement/dp/B07VLJPZDR/

https://www.costco.com/samsung-32"-class-ur59-series-4k-uhd-curved--monitor.product.100512595.html

https://www.amazon.com/LG-32UL500-W-Display-FreeSync-Compatibility/dp/B088G1PKKN/

I think I'm leaning towards the Phillips, but want to have people who know more than I do double-check me. I mean, I couldn't decide between two ultrawides, so I bought a damn kayak instead. This is the level you're dealing with.

My use case is mostly Excel work, web and media consumption, and some light gaming. Think Skyrim, RCT2, maybe GTA V, Far Cry IV, Elden Ring or Witcher 3 every now and then. But mostly Skyrim, RCT2 and indie Steam games. I definitely want a 32" panel for productivity purposes. A VESA mount is a huge plus, as are built-in speakers for some reason, but really I'm more concerned about image quality and sharpness than anything else. Which of these makes the most sense? Last thread on this. Until my kayak comes in. Then I'll post a thread about my kayak, which I'm already naming the SS Ultrawide.

Edit: some kind of dual-source "picture in picture" feature would be a beautiful thing to have. Also, my budget is $300 before tax (the Phillips is less than $300 with Amazon card points earned)

Another edit: my current monitor is an LG 27UD58

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

They're all bad choices for most forms of gaming or even smooth desktop usage. 60 Hz and the Freesync range is probably around 45-60, meaning it's a pretty lackluster experience. Gigabyte had a high refresh UHD 32" panel, would suggest checking that out.

Forgot to mention budget. I spent 1/3rd of my monitor budget on a kayak and PFD lol

Why do you want a 4K monitor ? Those need a super beefy GPU, and are useless for Excel work and media consumption...

Curved ultrawides are *not* good for Excel, figures don't line up ! 🙂

And then with your budget you can just have not very good low refresh rate ones...

Media consumption. Also, my 1070 can handle 4k on older titles. Like the ones I play, more or less, and I don't mind downscaling to 1440 or 1080 on games that demand it.

Shush you. The SS Ultrawide will soon be owning the Atlantic Ocean.

I mean, yeah, it's a cheap inflatable. And the paddle that comes with it kinda sucks. And lots of people say it's the perfect kayak unless there's current or a light breeze. But, yeah, owning the Atlantic Ocean.

Is it safe to take an inflatable 9-foot kayak onto the ocean?

Only one way to find out. #floridaman

I did look at that monitor and I like a lot about it, but I really hesitate to give up my full 4K display. I have a 15.4" portable 1080p screen that serves as a second monitor when needed.

The guy with the 1070 begs to differ. As does my 60 FPS in modded Skyrim 4K, high settings. I'm not going to get 4K in Cyberpunk, which is fine. But if I have a 1440p monitor, I'm not going to watch anything in 4K.

See what I'm getting at here? Not going to argue this with you. I'm looking for a 32" 4K monitor.
