So when looking for an aio for my new build, but while looking ive found some that have the pump in the radiator instead of over the cpu block. This peaked my interest and raised questions in my head. Is there any real pro or cons to this design over the normal one? Also dont you not want to top mount these, Because you dont want the air gaps in the radiator where the pump is?

You would be correct. Try not to buy the models with the pump in the radiator at all, at least the MSI versions had a recent recall for sediment buildup that clogged the block. EK and Arctic make the the most well respected models.

I thought about these "pump in rad" styles and came to the same conclusion. I don't want to mess with that kind of nonsense.  I'll stick with the tried and true asetek design.

I suppose you could mount the horizontally on the floor of a Lian Li style case, but nothing on the roof, since that would (as you mentioned) put the pump in the high spot.
