First my build specs

Motherboard - Gigabyte Aurous z590 elite AX

Processor - Intel I7 10700k

GPU - 2080Ti

Cooler - Corsair H100i Elite

Ram - G.skill TridentZ 32GB

PSU - Corsair RM850x

So i've read that the z590 chipset has 24 3.0 Lanes while my 10700k has 16 3.0 lanes

Im pretty new to this stuff so my question is does this mean i have 40 3.0 lanes?

Im trying to run 3 m.2's while running my GPU but my 3rd m.2 is not working and i feel it has something to do with my processor only allowing 1x8 + 2x4 config but then what happens to the chipset lanes?

while looking at my GPU-Z with 2 m.2's installed it still shows my GPU running at x16 so im also confused on how its still getting x16 if it should be dropping to the 1x8 + 2x4 config

unless theres another reason my 3rd m.2 isnt working

I would really appreciate if someone can explain this to me like im 4 on what i can do and the differences between the chipset and processor lanes

Lane count doesn't mean anything per se, it's the features that the motherboard/platform offers that counts so the mobo manual is the reference.

You'll see in it that the top slot only works with 11th gen CPUs because it's connected directly to the CPU, which 10th gen doesn't support yet.

Thank you for the response i was so confused on why it wouldnt work after looking in the manual for a while i seen in small writing only supported by 11th gen processors lol
