Should i get a 4k 144hz monitor?

Im going to be getting a high end 40 series gpu once they come out and i want to play some games at a higher resolution.

i tested 4k on my 4k tv and other than the bad framerate because im using a gtx 970, it looked pretty nice. I tried 1440p too and it was better than 1080p but didnt feel like much of an upgrade. But 4k felt entirely different, it looks way better.

The only problem is its pretty expensive, the 4k 144hz gigabyte m32u that i was looking at costs 580 usd. Is it worth it?

im upgrading from 1080p 280hz. ill still be using it for competitive games and stuff like that, but i want a display thats good for games with better visuals.

Considering that well a 3090ti can NOT do 4k 144fps on just high settings in most CURRENT games I'd not keep my hopes up that the 4000 series will be able to do it for. Best case it can do it for the games that are out right then but the games that come the year after it will struggle on again.

As for monitor I'd stick to the good old 1440p 27inch space. A gigabyte m27q is a great screen and is an amazing value. I'd just get that instead of trying to be on the bleeding edge.

Also keep in mind 4k on a tv and 4k on a monitor is a lot different. Due to different screen size. So 1440p can easily be the same wow factor as 4k on a big tv for you.

If you care much about high FPS it might not be the best option and 1440p would be a better option.

But if you don't care much about high FPS and are more interested in visual quality and clarity. 4K even on 27 or 28 inch is awesome. I switched to 4K about half a year ago and I will never go back to 1440p and especially not 1080p for gaming.

Also games where you generally want higher FPS like competitive shooters you will get above 100 no problem even with current gen (3080Ti and up) at very high settings. All other games you will get at least 60 at very high settings with current gen. So with next gen cards these numbers shouldn't be any problem.

Ill be using the 4k monitor for stuff like triple a games, indie games, and other stuff like that. they benefit more from visuals and dont really need high fps. I could actually just go for 4k60 but 144 looks better so yeah.

also im not getting rid my current 1080p 280hz monitor, ill switch between them depending on what im playing. using the 4k one for competetive shooters would make no sense when i have a 280hz one.

Im sorry this is like 2 days late, i dont see responses immediately because i dont check the website all the time.

for 4K save some money and get a 75Hz monitor. It's the sweet spot for the hardware available in today's market. If it was 1440p, then yes I would say go for 144Hz because if my RTX 3060 mobile can reach 90 fps on Ultra (Metro Exodus), I believe a desktop 3080ti can reach 144 fps in the same setting.

Budget Gamer at heart.

In that case I would take 4k over 1440p. Yeah 144hz is just way smoother not only gaming but also when doing anything else.

You looked at the M32U. There are also some options at 28". Have you also considered that size or are displays smaller than 32" no option?
