12gb vs 16gb ram

Hey, guys need your help I'm finally getting a pc(laptop) 馃ぇ

It comes with 12gb of ram(8脳1+4脳1) it's a hp pavilion (link of product at bottom).

I am in a dilemma should i yeet 4gb stick and replace with 8gb one?

Or buy 8脳2 kit.

Or I AM OVER THINKING and I don't need 16 gb.

My use case: zoom, browsing, maybe learning python (I'm 18 passed my high school preparing for med school) maybe dabble with Adobe tools in future for photo/video editing.

Will the odd 4*1 and 8*1 configuration hurt performance?

Thank you

If you feel fine with that 12 GB, let it be. Otherwise, yeet the 4 GB and replace it with the similar 8 GB one.

I personally use 12 GB and it's actually kind-of overkill of my regular use, but in programming I could say you'd need it on some point later on.

Humor me, as you should do.

1. Have a look if any RAM sticks are soldered

2. Check what the maximum supported module size is

3. Check what speeds are supported and if one ram stick is soldered, check what its speed is, no point in buying anything faster.

If all checks out, get yourself some more RAM.

No, nothing bad will happen if you have jank sized memory. I had a system with 7GB of memory and nothing happened. No I've got a laptop that has 12GB and hasn't blown up either yet.

Based on use case run as it is to start with. Only look to upgrade if you really need the extra ram. Laptops usually use standard ram (not XMP) so it is pretty safe to mix and match as long as you get the right speed.
