I have my laptop connected to a bigger screen at the end of my bed, what is the best way I could control my computer remotely to open games, search/pause netflix etc 

 

something with my phone or xbox controller maybe?

 

any help would be much appreciated

You can use Unified Remote (https://www.unifiedremote.com) for your phone. I personally using it while watching movies and it works like charm.

 

Or, invest a bit in wireless keyboard and mouse and you could actually play while sitting on your bed.
