You lost your chances of recovery when you decided to remove the lid off the thing.

That thing is destined for a landfil now.

Clarification here. What exactly does de-lidding the thing do that wasn't a problem prior?

I don't badmouth others' input, I'd appreciate others not badmouthing mine. *** More below ***

gets dust and stuff on the disk

those drivers are sealed for a reason

some even have helium in them

I can see dust being a problem, but that might take a bit. Perhaps OP could relid it and hope for some luck.

no there is no chance

its microdusts dusts you cant see

its why they pull apart the disks in like a class 5 or somthing clear zone

to get rid of micro things in the air

That drive was already toast before they opened it up.

Removing the lid from a drive that old doesn't insta-kill it. I tinker with old computers, and I've opened up a bunch of old drives to get them going again. I've got a Quantum drive where the rubber bump stops for the read arm de-vulcanized into sticky goop and kept the arm from moving. I pulled the top magnet off the coil, covered the goop with tape, reassembled, and it worked fine again. Just don't touch the platters and blow them off with a duster can (or properly dried compressed air) and it should be fine at least one last time to get the data off it.

Not 20 years ago.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.
