I keep looking at a getting new GPU. I just don't know if would actualy by worth getting or which would be a better fit. I currently have an Nvidia 980 FTW. I have been looking at 3060 Ti's for a replacement. I have seem some 3070s within my price range too. I do not OC but don't see to much of an issue within the games I currently play. I have also looked into the 2060 and 2070s but at the same price as the 3000 series not sure I would want to go with a 2000 series. I am not interested in an ATI variant at this time. I know the 6600 XT would be a good option. I'm just not sure if I should just hold out and built a new system when the new hardware drops or upgrade my GPU now and wait longer for a new system. Mobo only supports 3.0 M.2 and PCIE.

Well the 3060ti or 3070 would be a significant upgrade in terms of performance and the 980 is getting a bit old at this point so it might be ok now for the games you play but newer games are only getting harder to play so if you are planning on playing some newer games then it might be worth considering. That being said if you are still satisfied with your current performance then there really isn't necessary to upgrade. I know that is usually the biggest thing for me is I upgrade if I want better performance than what I am currently getting.

Also, a clear measurement from rear wall to front wall is needed to establish what will fit and what will not. Without details on your case...

I don't badmouth others' input, I'd appreciate others not badmouthing mine. *** More below ***

Due to the above, I've likely revised posts <30 min old, and do not think as you do.

If you are just gaming then I'd recommend an amd gpu, usually better price to performance than nvidia. I also thing the 6600xt is a good card for 98% of games. If you are using anything like professional software like Adobe, Ray tracing, or dlss, nvidia would be your best bet
