I recently upgraded to a Ryzen 7 5800x and gave my Ryzen 5 5600x to my girlfriend. (on that note, when testing idle temps in my pc with the ryzen 5, i was hitting 45-50c idle, in her pc, it was 35-40 idle)

I'm using a MSI Coreliquid 240R AIO and I'm sure although the temps are nowhere near dangerous, they shouldn't be this high idle. What can I do? New AIO? New case? (currently using MSI MAG VAMPIRIC 010) or new thermal paste? please help...

P.P.S. I was told it could be the AIO, or the poor airflow of this case, if so, can somebody post suggestions / recommendations for a better case & AIO. around 100gbp budget for both

P.S. I'm mainly asking for help because the pc is really loud because of this. 😭

Are your fans at the same speed?  If your at  low rpm and hers at higher speeds that might be the difference

Ah! Just read the post script, I assume your fans are the cause of the noise.

Re-paste, reseat, make sure the AIO is orientated properly to avoid cavitation over the die.

How old is the AIO? Also, what do your temps look like while the PC is under stress?

the pc as a whole is only a couple weeks old, the aio is about 2 weeks old as i was using the stock cooler for a while and pretty much getting the same temperatures

I've repasted at least 4 times, and im sure the AIO is correctly orientated.

Stock 5800x. ✅

Poor airflow case. ✅

Only 240 but mainly known bad design AIO✅

Is the radiator horizontally mounted? The pump is up there and you don't want that being the highest point in the loop. Those AIO's are just kinda crap all around.

Still though, idle temps mean nothing, what you want to know is the relationship under a full load (not gaming) like Cinebench what you're seeing as the all-core clockspeed. Only then will you know if your cooling solution is adequate. Remember, 5800x is going to run hotter as all 8 cores are enabled in one CCX, that's a lot of heat in a small space. 5900x for example is 6 and 6.

In a proper airflow case, some PBO Curve Optimizer undervolt tuning and a 360 AIO, idle will be closer to 35c and maintain 4.7Ghz all core under load.

What case and AIO would you recommend? I'm new to undervolting / overclocking etc so how would you suggest doing that? / link a video.

yes, its horizontally mounted at the top of the case

Reasonable temps under full load, thats about where my 3900x lands at full tilt.

I mean your stressed temps are pretty decent. You may just have high idle temps. Could be background apps running or other reasons. You could try creating your own fan curve to keep them from running so fast. As long as your card doesn't go over the 80-85 degree threshold you will be fine.

Yo if that’s an msi cooler, I have seen videos where people have problems like this specifically with msi coolers and usually the problem is defective coolant here is an example of one such video:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9U_5aGf0G9Q if you have a spare cooler laying around test it with that to see if the problem really is the aio. And just a question, is this an all msi build cause the case and gpu are msi as well? But the temps are not very similar it was like 85-110 under load in the vid and 50-60 idle

That stuff still wouldn't cause 50c idle.  'Known bad' by forum standards is still way better than the crap 90% of OEMs shit out, so clearly the heat problem isn't just 'le inferior gamer gear'.

I edit the shit out of my posts.  Refresh before you respond.

Yeah It's mainly an MSI build, it wouldn't hurt me to go with a different brand's part but its just a subtle trait since my monitor is also msi, if i had to replace the case or aio it wouldn't be a bad idea. I'm hearing alot about this AIO being defective for a ton of people but I'm also seeing people saying its probably not that and I would rather not spend another 50-100 on an AIO and have mine end up being okay in the first place.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the AIO from what I've been hearing while having it. But at the same time I'm coming to the buildapc subreddit and this LTT forum to see if there's something I'm missing, It could be my overall case cooling but I'm not sure.

BTW if this ends up being important information, I'm using these cheap antec case fans, I wouldn't be surprised if they are the cause of my High idle temps but since its the CPU idk if the case fans have anything to do with that.
