YES. that depends on the power supply itself, and how much curretn can go torugh the 12V. but pins do matter if the psu is a decent unit, and can actually supply enough wattage on the 12V rail.

your psu is fine

I have a seasonic g550 gold psu. I want to by a msi mech 6700xt. The manufacturer recommends 650 wattt psu. Is that a mandatory recommendation, or could I get away with a 550 watt. The psu has an 8 pin amd 6 pin power plugs

Thabks for your wisdom and knowledge.

550w should be enough, the 3770 doesn't take up that much power. worst case scenario, you will need to upgrade the psu. don't really see a good reason not to try it as is.

edit: nvm, just checked, the msi takes two 8 pins, so either an adapter would be needed, or a new psu.

Dang. I did find a sapphire pulse that does have a 6 and 8 pin needed. Maybe I'll get that. Or play it safe and get a 6600xt.

Dude, G-series 550w came with two 6+2 pins so what's the problem? You did cut off 2 pins?

It's not the connection. It's how much power the card can pull. Am I wrong thinking that the more pins...the more power available?
