Dead PC pulled out the drive, can I simply put it in another PC and recover files? (w10 install)

So if my HDD is OK after my laptop decided to go out in a blaze of Glory while I was watching Amphibia, it went like click or poof not entirely sure... Either way if the drive is alive how easy is it to get the files out of windows 10 installs? ūü§Ē

Pretty easy, done it a couple of times. (not on my own system but to help friends and family)

What killed your laptop? If the HDD killed your laptop I'd highly advise against plugging it into your PC.

Do you have a back-up/ old system you could test it on?

After a Linux installation on a laptop, which usually involves replacing the original disk with an SSD, I then plug the removed disk into the original laptop, or any other computer, via a SATA to USB cable with an adaptor. I then copy across the data to the new storage in the laptop (or other computer).

A SATA to USB adaptor would probably cost about $15 US, maybe less.

Well the computer does not light up when charger is plugged in, it was a bright flash from the screen when it happened suspect a fuze or cap went kaboom inside? Sounded like a click or poof...

Drive could be encrypted, depending on how it's encrypted it could mean the difference in finding the massive code or logging in with your old credentials.

I'd say give it a shot if you have a HDD reader.

Well if it's encrypted might as well try to boot it? It's probably UEFI right? XD
