Replacement Computer Speakers

Go to solution Solved by thewelshbrummie,

Obvious option is the Logitech Z906 - there are reviews going back to at least 2011 but they are still a current model and have sounded good when I've looked in-store at them. $399 direct from Logitech, Amazon have them for $374.

Hey guys,

So I am a newbie audio guy who recently upgraded my home theater and is looking for new speakers for my desktop. My trusty Logitech X-530's that I have had since 2004 have finally bit the dust. I want a system that is all-in-one box, includes a subwoofer, and is easy to control. 5.1 is preferable. Cabled for the rear channel is also my preference but wireless is fine if it works?

My current living room audio setup is a set of 4 Pioneer SP-BS22-LR Andrew Jones Book Shelf Speakers with matching center channel and subwoofer plus a mid range Onkyo Receiver. I am hoping for sound quality that is in this range but am willing to sacrifice for convenience.

My budget is flexibly around $500. What do yall think?

Thank you in advance for any help or ideas.

Best,

Dave

Oh GOD no. Oh HELL no. For the love of god, NOT the Logitech. In the name of all things holy, NO!

Garbage product, especially for the price. So that's not the obvious option. OP's budget was a flexible $500, and I wouldn't recommend the Z906 unless you were able to snag it for free on the side of the road.

This is a far better setup. Why you would ever downgrade to a Logitech all-in-one is beyond me. Also please, wait for a few responses before marking something as resolved. That gives nobody enough time to dispute anything, which in this case would've been very helpful. Nobody needs a 5.1 at their desktop, get a decent set of monitors. There's no need to sacrifice quality, and you wouldn't have to if you just got some decent nearfield monitors.

Home Theater setup should have a bit higher quality offering than your desktop.  That said, I'm over here with my z606 feeling perfectly fine about my 5.1 living room setup and NGAF about atmos or other bells and whistles--given that I use HTPC, and I source from places that don't have content justifying more.

I would go with a 2.1 for your desktop, and something cheap.  Like Best Buy's Insignia.
